What are the benefits of massage therapy?

Massage has many wonderful benefits for both body and mind. It can help to:

  • Reduce stress and promote deep relaxation
  • Ease muscle tension and soreness
  • Improve circulation and lymphatic flow
  • Support better sleep and mood
  • Enhance flexibility and range of motion
  • Alleviate headaches and postural discomfort
  • Create space for stillness, mindfulness, and self-care
Whether you're looking to unwind, reset, or recover — massage therapy is a gentle yet effective way to support your well-being.
How should I prepare for my massage?

To make the most of your session, here are a few simple steps to follow:

  • Hygiene – Please shower before your massage , especially for full-body treatments. It helps you feel refreshed and allows us to work safely and respectfully.
  • Clothing – Keep your underpants on during the session. You'll be professionally draped at all times to ensure your comfort and privacy.
  • Calm space – Our Ealing therapy room is designed to be a tranquil haven. For a mobile massage, Choose a warm, quiet room with enough space for a massage table. Soft lighting, a cosy blanket, and gentle background music can add to the experience. Don't worry if you don't have calming music - we can bring soft, relaxing sounds if needed.
  • Hydration – Have a glass of water nearby to drink after your massage . Massage helps release toxins and boost circulation, so staying hydrated supports the body's natural balance.
  • Slippers or non-slip socks – If you're having a full-body massage, your feet may feel a little oily afterwards. Keep slippers or non-slip socks nearby to stay safe and comfortable when getting up.
  • Switch off – Turn your phone to silent and take a moment to mentally slow down. This is your time to rest and reconnect.
What massage oil do you use?

At Rest and Bloom Massage, we use Grapeseed or Jojoba Golden oil for our treatments. These oils are light, nourishing, and absorb beautifully into the skin without leaving a heavy residue.

  • Grapeseed massage oil is gentle, non-greasy, and rich in antioxidants — perfect for smooth gliding and hydrating the skin.
  • Jojoba Golden massage oil closely mimics the skin's natural oils, making it especially beneficial for sensitive or dry skin types.
If you have any allergies or sensitivities to these oils, please let us know when you book so we can make appropriate adjustments.
How will I feel after my massage?

Everyone responds differently, but here are a few common experiences:

  • You may feel deeply relaxed, sleepy, or a little spacey — this is completely normal.
  • Mild soreness in areas of tension release can occur, similar to post-exercise soreness.
  • You might feel lighter, more mobile, and in better alignment.
  • You may also feel more emotionally open or calm — massage can unlock not just physical tension, but emotional tension too.
We recommend taking it easy after your massage. Drink plenty of water, avoid intense exercise, and give yourself time to enjoy the sense of calm.
What is Manual Lymphatic Drainage Massage?
Manual Lymphatic Drainage (MLD) is a gentle, rhythmic technique that helps stimulate the lymphatic system to reduce swelling, flush out toxins, improve immune support, and boost circulation. It's ideal for easing puffiness, soothing inflammation, reducing stress, and promoting deep calm and wellbeing.

This nurturing therapy also helps relieve fluid retention, supports natural detoxification, and can aid recovery after surgery (with a doctor's note where required) — restoring balance, lightness, and harmony from within. At Rest and Bloom Massage, we practise the renowned Vodder method of Manual Lymphatic Drainage — known for its gentle, precise movements that encourage natural healing and deep relaxation.
What are the benefits of Manual Lymphatic Drainage massage?
Manual Lymphatic Drainage (MLD) offers a wide range of restorative benefits. It helps reduce fluid retention and puffiness, supports the body's natural detoxification process, and improves circulation and immune function.

Many clients also find it deeply relaxing — easing stress, calming the nervous system, and leaving them with a renewed sense of lightness and wellbeing. Regular sessions can help maintain overall balance and promote long-term vitality from within.
Is Manual Lymphatic Drainage massage right for me?
Manual Lymphatic Drainage (MLD) massage is a gentle, therapeutic treatment suitable for most people seeking relaxation, detox support, or relief from swelling and fluid retention. It's especially beneficial if you're feeling sluggish, stressed, or in need of a restorative boost. However, if you've had recent surgery or have a medical condition, please consult your doctor before booking.
How often should I have a Manual Lymphatic Drainage massage?
The ideal frequency depends on your individual needs. Many clients enjoy MLD as a one-off treatment to feel lighter and more balanced, while others find regular sessions (weekly or biweekly) help maintain wellbeing and support circulation. Your therapist can guide you on what feels best for your body and goals. For optimal results and to allow your body time to rebalance, we recommend leaving at least 48 hours between MLD treatments.
Do you have a therapy room where I can have my massage?
Yes, treatments can be arranged in our comfortable, private therapy room in South Ealing. The space is designed for calm and relaxation, offering a peaceful setting for your massage. Please note, sessions are by appointment only (not a walk-in service).
